Today we got to explore the use of some life skills in P.E. We used cooperation, teamwork, leadership, communication, and patience. We also had a ton of fun when we used these skills with a parachute! We even worked our fabulous muscles to wiggle, move air, lift against force, and run!
This is a math favorite. The children get on with a buddy and practice their math facts. You can even try this at home on an iPad or iPhone. It is a free app and it is called: Math Fight-Fun 2 player Math Game! Children can even play their parents or grandparents. What a fun way to practice in the car, at home, at the ballgame, waiting on their siblings to finish practice or piano lessons. Check it out!
We were working on another addition strategy today. We discovered that we all know our ten + any number is easier to add than two random numbers. For example, 10 + 3 is easier to add in our brain than 8 + 5. So, we take 2 away from 5 and turn the 8 into a 10. Then we add the leftover 3 = 13. For visual we used mini marshmallows for our ones and when we got to 10 ones we traded in our 10 marshmallows for a pretzel stick. We had to use willpower like Frog and Toad and not eat our math until we were finished. They LOVED it! We will revisit math + food=YUM in many different ways this year!
Today we got to partner up and practice spelling on the iPads! The room was amazingly quiet while students looked for correctly spelled words in a few rounds of memory match. This is a great site to visit. Look in our newsletter for more log in information.
In the afternoon today all of our second graders got together and prayed a decade of the Rosary for the dead, especially those touched by 9/11. As our song at Mass this morning said,"We come as your people, we come as your own, united with each other love finds a home."
Today we had lots of smiles in room 2. We made a Super Snack that was featured in our SUPER magazine. They are called Apple Smiles. We had several children say that they did not like cream cheese or mini marshmallows, but we tried them and some decided that they were pretty yummy treats.
Today we celebrated Mary our Mother's Birthday. We were pleasantly surprised to have blue, yes, blue cupcakes with white icing and blue crosses to celebrate the very special day. A special thank you to Kris Schweiss, room mom, for providing them for us! We were so excited about the special treats, that I forgot to take any pictures. Sorry about that, but I will try to do better. I thought you would like to know why some of your precious children came home rather "blue".
Today we got to create note cards. Each one had a fact all about us one one side and a illustration on the other. Our partner got to guess what we were trying to share by looking at the picture. Afterwards, we read each other's written clues to see if we were correct. There was a buzz in the room.
