We started our week out this morning with our Morning Assembly and Prayer Service.....only today it was our First Week of Advent! Mrs. Yarnall's class led the whole school in prayer and song to celebrate the first week of Advent. We got to light the purple candle today! Our hearts are open!
What do you get when you combine round crackers, cheese spread, shredded cheese, shredded carrots, and pretzel sticks? A SUPER snack called a Campfire. The were pretty yummy! We decided they were the easiest campfires we've ever made!
Today we made macaroni noodle necklaces to symbolize what the Wapanoag people would have probably worn to their First Thanksgiving Feast with the Pilgrims. We will wear them tomorrow to our Thanksgiving Mass. Please come and join us as we celebrate everything we are thankful for. It was fun. We used math skills to divide. We had to figure out how many noodles of each color we would get to use and then we used our pattern skills. We all agreed that the rubbing alcohol was a bit stinky, but when we mixed it with food coloring and then colored the noodles we saw science in action!! Super cool!
Today we went on a field trip to the Tippecanoe Public Library. We got to meet Mr. Jerry Pallotta, the author of lots of alphabet and numbering books-all nonfiction. He is also the author for the Who Would Win? series. He shared with children images of how he writes down his first ideas for his stories and then the final product. We shared lots of silly laughs with him; but through it all, he taught the children that love and learning are all around us, everyday--all day. It is up to us to recognize that and pass it on to others in our own special way. Hmmmmm.... isn't that what God calls us to do, too? Mr. Pallotta chose books.... what will you choose? They brought in their candy and they were even very willing to share with their teacher! We counted, graphed, visualized odd and even, compared with greater than, less than, and then we gobbled up ONE piece. Thank you parents, for your support! It is always fun to reinforce learning with daily life activities!
Thank you to Mrs. Schweiss, Mrs. Parlon, Mrs. Soon, and Mrs. Boutelle for helping with activities. We got a trick-a game to dress a mummy and we even got yummy treats: cupcakes, juice, and jack-o-lantern cuties! Before the party we learned about the history of Halloween and Safety tips during trick or treating!
